I think many photographers eventually hit a phase where photography becomes the business, and personal projects don’t seem important. In order to combat this effect I have decided to take on a small personal project. I’m calling it 10 x 40. Basically, when I go out I’ll pick a location, and I have to take 10 photos of the location. I might pick a trail or beach, urban location, or perhaps an item. I’m not 100% sure where this will go, but it’s a effort to get me to start taking photos again that aren’t just paid gigs. This might also get me to post more. So, now you know the 10 part. The 40 part is that this series will be shot only with my 40mm pancake lens, which I adore, but it’s still limits me to a fix lens. It’s wide enough for my taste, but also allows for some time macro shots if needed. I hope this project helps me to looks at things a little differently. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to do this. I’m going to shoot for once a month at the least.
Here is the first series of images. They were taken on my walk of the Pu’u O Lokuana Trail at the Kahuku Extension.
